Norwich Union Girls Active Roadshows
GirlsActive 2008 has been a great success!
25 January 2008

I have finished four re-turn visits in which I saw some exciting developments.

Here is what I liked best about the days…

Monday 21st January

The girls had produced bands, t-shirts, posters etc using a slogan to sum-up what girlsActive is about; Our Voice, Our Choice, Our Sport. Joining in on the activities was great but what I also liked is that the school sport coordinator had raised around ten thousand pounds to help 10 schools in her the area to implement GirlsActive so that it can continue to grow. They all seem very positive and I look forward to hearing the progress.

Tuesday 22nd January

The four GirlsActive leaders were instrumental to today because they have been committed to make a change. The day was good, I joined in with some of the sports. I really hope that the girls will get the support from their Head, PE Teachers. Performance Development Manager, School Sport Coordinator so that GirlsActive is really put in place. I believe that the strongest part will be engaging representatives from each year group so that all girls in the school have a voice. We will be watching to see how things are moved forward.

Wednesday 23rd January

This was another great day. The venue was very good for this event, I have never seen a gymnastic centre that is all pink! It was so cool. The day was very well organised and again they engaged other girls from different sports. It was a day of fun and energy especially the cheer leading that I really enjoyed. It felt like being in the American teenage cheer leading film ‘Bring it on’. The performance development manager (PDM) was great and with the four GA girls put a huge amount of work to organise the day.

Thursday 24th January

Again another great day for engaging other schools the PDM and the SSCo were both very positive and really helped make it a great day. But what really stood out are the presentations we had. There were two groups that spoke, the GirlsActive did a presentation about the work they have done to get to this day and how they plan to make developments in the future. There were also another group of girls that delivered a great presentation about their initiative called WISPA which stands for Women in Sport and Physical Activity.
They have been running for 3 years and have the same outlook as GA the great thing is that both groups will now team up to make a difference to girls at schools in the area.

It’s been a great week. All school partnerships get £1000 to help kick start their legacy and I will be keeping in touch to see how they are doing.

I'm due to do one more return visit – to Plymouth – Watch out for the report
