GirlsActive 2008 4th visit to Plymstock School

This GirlsActive day was my last return visit following my January roadshow, to investigate the barriers preventing girls from doing more sport, and most of all to meet the girls and teachers to motivate and inspire them.
The activities took place in Plymouth, and involved more than 500 girls from 15 different schools, as part of my work to review Plymstock School Sport Partnership’s action plans for engaging more girls aged 13 -16 in PE and sport.
Plymstock School Sport Partnership is one of only five winning school sport partnerships selected based on the quality of the action plan submitted following their attendance at the roadshow in October last year. I went to the school see how they are implementing their ideas for change.
Activities on the day will include: Trampolining, Judo, Street Surfing, Dance Mats, Rowing, Cheerleading, X-Bikes and Climbing.
My Timetable for the day:
I arrived at 9.30
9.30am – 9.50am
I met the NUGA girls and was interviewed by the girls the school’s newsletter.
9.50am – 9.55am
I gave a motivational speech to 250 girls and teachers
Activities started at 10am
10am – 10.30am
I took part in the dance mats along with 100 girls
10.30am – 11am
I went over to the dance studio and took part in the cheerleading with 40 girls
11am – 11.30am
Over to the sports hall where I did Street Surfing with about 45 girls
11.30am – 12noon
I watched the judo
At lunch time I had a number of media commitments including press and radio interviews, then I carried on taking part in sports activities with the girls:
1pm – 1.30pm
It was back to the sports hall for the trampolining with around 30 girls
1.30pm – 2pm
We went outside for the climbing!
2pm – 2.30pm
back inside to the rowing pavilion for the X-bikes/rowing with 40 girls
I had a fantastic day, action packed and meeting loads of great people.
