A number of ‘On Camp with Kelly’ athletes were in action at the Norwich Union World Trials & UK Championships at the Manchester Regional Arena on 27-29 July.
Hannah England (Oxford City AC) came through strongly on the home straight to finish fourth in the 1500m final in 4:12.78, only just outside the personal best that she set earlier this season. The race was won by Katrina Wootton in 4:09.57. Emma Pallant (Aldershot Farnham & District) finished in 11th place in 4:19.68 after having run 4:16.32 in her heat. Jess Coulson (Stockport Harriers) only just missed out on making the final, finishing fifth in her heat in 4:19.68 and Linzi Snow (Woodford Green with Essex Ladies) finished 12th in her heat in 4:28.94.
Charlotte Best (Crawley AC) finished fifth in the 800m final in 2:03.24 which was won by Jemma Simpson in 2:00.91. Alison Leonard (Blackburn Harriers), Danielle Christmas (Crawley AC) and Tara Bird (Woodford Green with Essex Ladies) all qualified for the B final. Alison finished fourth in 2:06.42, Dani sixth in a season’s best of 2:07.05 and Tara seventh in 2:07.50, only just outside the new personal best of 2:07.39 she had set in the previous day’s heat.
Laura Finucane (Pendle AC) opted for the 400m as part of her preparation for competing over 800m at the World University Games in August, finishing sixth in the final in 54.05 after having run 53.45 in her heat, her quickest time since she set her personal best of 53.23 in 2004.
At the European Youth Olympic Festival in Belgrade, Serbia, on Friday 27 July, Rachel Stringer (City of Norwich) finished seventh in the 800m final in 2:10.49. The race was won by Romanian Florina Pierdevara in 2:07.41. Rachel had qualified comfortably from her heat in 2:10.91.
On Saturday 21 July Kerrie Harris (Hull Achilles) won the 800m at the Schools Home International in Newport by over two seconds in an excellent new personal best of 2:08.98, taking over a second off the best she set earlier in the season.
Kerrie said: “I am really pleased with my run as I just went to the front from the start and ran my own race. I felt great, I didn’t even realise that it was a fast time until I crossed the line!”
