‘On Camp with Kelly’ athlete Kerrie Harris (Hull Achilles) competed for the English Schools team at the Jean Humbert Cup in Bordeaux, France, on 22-27 June. The International School Sport Federation event takes place every two years and this year was the tenth edition of the event.
Kerrie was selected to compete over 800m for the English Schools team following her personal best of 2:10.2 at the Humberside County Schools Championships in Hull on 9 June.
Kerrie was an easy winner of the 800m in 2:13.05, four seconds ahead of the second placed athlete.
On returning from the event, Kerrie said: “It was such an experience running in France as the heat took some getting used to. The food was not very good but thankfully because of ‘On Camp with Kelly’ I knew that I had to arrive prepared so I packed my bag with energy bars and biscuits which kept me going!
“Overall it was a fantastic experience as I not only had the chance to meet athletes from 26 different countries and meet some great new people, I also got a taste of a different country and culture and a better insight into international competition. However, I don't think I would have taken full advantage of this opportunity without being part of ‘On Camp with Kelly’ as it definitely made me travel prepared and most importantly it has boosted my confidence.”
