No less than six ‘On Camp with Kelly’ athletes set personal bests at the BMC Nike Grand Prix, incorporating the UK Challenge, at the Manchester Regional Athletics Arena on Saturday 9 June.
In the 800m A race all three of the OCWK athletes in the field improved on the personal bests that they had set at the Loughborough International on 20 May. Winner Charlotte Best (Crawley AC) and third placed athlete Emma Jackson (City of Stoke) both took one and a half seconds off the times they set in Loughborough with 2:01.66 and 2:01.95 respectively. This was Emma’s third personal best over 800m this season and is by far the quickest time by a European junior athlete this year. In seventh place Alison Leonard (Blackburn Harriers) took seven tenths of a second off the best she set in Loughborough with 2:04.86.
In the 800m B race Linzi Snow (Woodford Green with Essex Ladies) continued her winning streak with victory in 2:05.49. This was an improvement of over a second on her best set just last weekend when she won the OCWK race at the Norwich Union Glasgow Grand Prix. Finishing second behind Linzi as in Glasgow was Hannah Brooks (Crawley AC) who improved her best to 2:05.81 to dip under the qualifying mark for the European Athletics Junior Championships. Lucy Dowsett (Cambridge & Coleridge) crossed the line in seventh place in 2:09.18.
In the 1500m A race, won by Jemma Simpson (Newquay & Par) in 4:10.08, Hannah England (Oxford City) took five seconds off her best to clock 4:12.44, inside the 4:13 qualifying mark for the European Athletics Under 23 Championships. Jordan Kinney finished 15th in the B race in 4:39.51.
