Involvement with OCWK

David took part in the Loughborough Educational Camp in April and the Male Athlete Get-Together in Leeds in September 2008.

He was awarded 'On Camp with Kelly' Excellent Achievement Awards in 2008 and 2009 in recognition of his selection for the Aviva GB & NI Team for major championships.

David made his debut over 5000m at the BUCS Athletics Championships and took the silver medal in 14:26.44. He improved his 1500m best to 3:40.81 in Watford on 13 June and his 800m best to 1:48.91 at Trafford on 23 June.  He then took the bronze medal over 1500m at the Aviva England Under 23 Championships and at the European Athletics Under 23 Championships he finished tenth.

Performances in 2008

David set a brilliant new personal best of 3:41.6 for 1500m at the BMC Elite Meeting in Watford on 14 June to go seventh on the UK Under 20 all-time list. This time was also well inside the qualifying standard for the IAAF World Junior Championships and he secured his place in the team by winning the trial race at the England Athletics Under 20 Championships. At the World Juniors, he reached the 1500m final and acquitted himself well to finish in ninth place. He has also set personal bests for 400m, 800m and 3000m this season and was named Junior Male Athlete of the Year by the British Athletics Writers Association in October. In December he finished in 5th place at the European Junior Cross Country Championships.

In the 2007-08 cross country season David was a clear winner of the Under 20 race at the UK Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships and went on to place an excellent 24th in the junior race at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Edinburgh.
