42 ‘On Camp with Kelly’ athletes attended a very special Get-Together entitled ‘Eat for Success’ at University College Birmingham (UCB) on Saturday 10 October.

Dame Kelly teamed up with celebrity chef Ainsley Harriott to educate the OCWK athletes about the importance of good nutrition for physical and mental performance, particularly when they move out of home and have to start cooking for themselves.
The aim of the Get-Together was to give the athletes a better understanding of how to cook nutritious meals, enabling them to refuel properly after training and competition. Ainsley took the athletes through cooking demonstrations and providing recipes for quick, cheap and healthy dishes. He also taught them essential practical cooking skills.
The athletes then underwent their own challenge by each preparing and cooking four of the dishes that Ainsley had demonstrated – Bolognese sauce, fish pie, spiced chicken with raita couscous and energy bars – in UCB’s excellent teaching kitchens with the assistance of UCB chefs and Ainsley himself.
The athletes also benefitted from a workshop with Performance Nutritionist Mhairi Keil who spoke to them about the science behind recovery nutrition.
