18 female athletes and some of their coaches attended a Get-Together at the excellent facilities at Tonbridge School in Kelly’s home town on Monday 22 December. The athletes who took part were Tara Bird, Suzi Boast, Hannah Brooks, Charlotte Browning, Jess Burns, Dani Christmas, Rowena Cole, Jordan Kinney, Leigh Lennon, Ejiro Okoro, Charlotte Purdue, Louise Small, Stacey Smith, Linzi Snow, Non Stanford, Rachel Stringer, Rachael Thompson and Laura Weightman, and the coaches who were able to attend were Andy & Rosemary Boast, Don Lennon, Chris & Sonia McGeorge, Chris Newman, Trevor Painter, Norma Pugh, Tom Snow and Mick Woods.
In the morning the athletes took part in a training session on the grass pitches at the school led by Kelly and UK Athletics Endurance Performance Coach Mick Woods, who also coaches a number of OCWK athletes. In the afternoon UK Athletics Medical Director Dr Paul Dijkstra led a workshop on medical issues and the girls also had the opportunity to review their 2008 season and set goals for 2009 and take part in media training.
Each athlete had a one-to-one with Kelly or another member of OCWK staff to discuss how the initiative can help them in their athletics careers and they were also able to receive physio treatment from OCWK physiotherapist Alison Rose and massage.
